A study of North Dakota girls shows urban girls and rural girls differ in the opportunities they have today and in their aspirations for the future. But they apparently share the belief that when they enter the work force, they'll make less money than men. "I was surprised at how clearly that they recognize that pay inequity is still an issue," said Renee Stromme, executive director of the North Dakota Women's Network.

-Bob Motzko didn't seem overly thrilled with the two-man advantage North Dakota got that led to two goals. In real time, I didn't think Oliver Lauridsen's hit was that bad, but on replay, he clearly drilled the North Dakota player in the face. -I thought North Dakota was extremely fortuante Ben Blood's "boarding" penalty in the third period wasn't called a hit from behind, especially when comapred against the five-minute check from behind called in the CCHA championship game.

MOORHEAD, Minn. When the swollen Red River threatened his uninsured house last spring, all Mark Baumgardner could do was pack up, leave and hope he wouldn't lose everything. In the end, his house was spared. But he learned a lesson: This year, he bought flood insurance.

Junior wing Anthony Maiani, the University of Denver's fourth- leading scorer (34 points), is doubtful for the Pioneers' NCAA Tournament opener this week, coach George Gwozdecky said. Maiani suffered a broken index finger in Friday's 4-3 loss to North Dakota, and he did not play in Saturday's 6-3 setback to Wisconsin. He is incapable of grasping a stick.

It stinks to lose Anthony; he's a big part of our team   -Marc Cheverie
